Continued growth in Ukraine’s venture capital sector has seen the total value of VC investments reach $1.5 billion this year, according to a recent report in the Kyiv Post. But the sector remains largely disconnected from the wider European tech and startup ecosystem.
In order to create a stronger community of founders and investors, Adam Smith Conferences, will be hosting a first-of-its-kind webinar focusing on the development of the startup ecosystem in Ukraine. The webinar, which will take place on September 2, will feature leading voices in Ukrainian tech, including Victoria Tigipko, Managing Partner at TA Ventures and Kirill Bigai, CEO at Preply.com, among others.
Over the course of two hours, a moderated panel discussion will explore the challenges and opportunities facing Ukraine’s start-up ecosystem. The speakers will discuss successful models from other rising startup capitals in Europe, such as London, Paris, and Berlin. Participants will have the opportunity to submit their own questions to the panel.
For the time, Ukrainian and international experts will be brought together to examine how local stakeholders can create better incubator and accelerator resources and create a culture of angel investment in Ukraine. The discussion will also explore how Ukrainian startups can work to attract backing from leading VC firms across Europe.
The conversation will feature the insights of leading international experts such as Charles Whitehead, founding director of the entrepreneurship program at the Cornell University School of Law, and Emmanuel Lowe, a senior advisor to the EBRD’s Star Venture Programme.
“We have been tracking the development of Ukraine’s startup ecosystem closely” says, Vadim Kudruk, the event organiser. “Our aim in convening this event is to help start a wider conversation about the huge potential for the country’s tech ecosystem. The fundraising success of firms like Preply and Competera should be the tip of the iceberg.”
The free event will be streamed on Zoom and is part of a series of conferences focused on Ukraine organised by Adam Smith Conferences, one of the leading conference organizers in Eastern Europe.
Other Adam Smith events in Ukraine include the Ukrainian Wealth Management Forum and Ukrainian Energy Forum.
