Report: Ukrainian server and PC markets fall sharply in Q1 2014

According to an IDC report, total server shipments to Ukraine in Q1 2014 amounted to $10.6 million (in retail value), down 20% year-on-year. The volume of x86 server shipments halved to 1,633 units and sales revenues fell by 22.7%.

HP led the server market with a 44% market share, followed by Dell (14%) and Navigator (12%).

The devaluation of the hryvnia and the tense situation in the country have reverted the size of the server market to 2009 levels (Q1 2009 – $11.5 million).

IDC also found that shipments of personal computers (PCs) decreased by 54% to 271,700 units in Q1 2014. Notebooks were especially impacted, with 161,000 laptops imported to Ukraine over January-March, down 60% from the previous quarter. Imports of desktops fell by 41.5% to 110,700 units.

The sharp devaluation of the hryvna, changes in customs and tax services, and the decline of retail credit programs have  affected demand from both the corporate and consumer segments.

Considering the difficult political situation in the country and the economic obstacles facing Ukraine this year, IDC analysts expect a further decline of the PC market in the second quarter.
