In a case of East meets West, the most dynamic representatives of Ukraine’s emerging tech industry are set to gather in the USA at the breakthrough Ukraine Tech Gem conference. The event will be held in San Francisco this Thursday at the Hyatt Regency hotel in partnership with Ukraine Digital News.
Ukraine has become one of the most efficient and cost-effective IT outsourcing markets in Europe, with the local outsourcing sector set to reach $4 billion in value by 2016. A well-educated and innovative IT workforce has attracted some of the world’s leading tech companies. Samsung, Huawei, Siemens, NetCracker and others have developed R&D centers in Ukraine.
Driven by local talent, a dynamic startup scene has also given rise to a number of successful M&A deals over the past few years, including Viewdle’s acquisition by Google ($45 million), Cupid’s IPO ($250m million) and GlobalLogic’s M&A ($480 million).
As the first US-Ukraine IT conference, the event will provide a unique platform for discussions and cooperation between luminaries from Silicon Valley and Ukrainian specialists and entrepreneurs. Bluechip high-tech companies such as Hewlett Packard, Intel, 500 Startups, Techstars, Mohr Davidow Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Venrock Ventures, Almaz Capital and others will be present at the one-day event.
In total, over 800 participants are expected (85% US & 15% Ukraine), including startups, startup accelerators, venture funds, business angels, IT product and service companies as well as students in technical specialties.
The program will include speeches by IT and VC legends from Silicon Valley, discussion panels, a large expo zone, as well as showcases of the 10 most successful Ukrainian startups to date (including Depositphotos, Bpm’online, Grammarly, Jooble, Invisible CRM).
The event is backed and organized by business incubator Happy Farm, IT services company EPAM, Ukrainian fund AVentures Capital, the European Business Association, and the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council.
