DressX creates digital clothes for Meta and operates first-of-its-kind NFT marketplace

DressX, a digital fashion launched in 2020 in California by Ukrainian Natalia Modenova and Daria Shapovalova, provides Meta with clothes for its Avatar Store. The first collection was made available on July 19, report Vogue Business and AIN Capital.

“What we do is all about people expressing themselves and connecting, and a huge part of that is what they wear and fashion, so getting that right on all the apps you use is really important,” Vogue Business quoted Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg as saying during a live stream announcing the marketplace.

“We want to create a marketplace so creators, over time, can design clothing and sell it… If you want to design fashion today, you need the physical materials and equipment, but in the future, anyone with a computer and an imagination will be able to come up with ideas for this,” he added.

DressX claims to have sold sold nearly 40,000 pieces since it began offering items on Roblox’s marketplace  a couple of months ago.

“The opportunity of the scale that we can achieve with Meta is great,” said Shapovalova. “For us, it is a little victory because when we started, there was nothing [for digital fashion]. The goal is to make it easier to wear digital fashion. We want people to wear collections from DressX on Snapchat, Meta, Roblox and more.”

The startup also operates a first-of-its-kind NFT marketplace dedicated to digital fashion wearables: fashion aficionados may “create, buy, sell, auction and wear NFTs thanks to unique utilities of augmented reality.”
